Roxana Herz

Argentinean visual artist, born in Buenos Aires on August 23rd 1957. Among her teachers we can find Mr. Victor Chab, Mr. Ernesto Pesce and Mr. Juan Doffo.

From the abstraction, Roxana Herz's work raises matters related to the human condition. Dilemmas that go from the emotional to the spiritual sphere.

Her series are a testimony of this constant personal search.

Series: Veil and Unveil

This new series is an awakening to a new dimension where the artist raises the dichotomy in which the human being is many times involved.

Her work is developed in some kind of ludic battle where she tries to play with the intersection between a chaotic randomness and a certain order that drains off several labyrinths.

Encounters, failed encounters, mysteries, secrets, wishes, doubts, suffering, love, sign the passion's battle not to be extinguished.

Pictures that enigmatically evoke inner and outer landscapes, like confronted mirrors that reflect serial images subjugated to the intentions of lights and shadows, in a palette explosion that exceeds the primary senses, and invites aspects that are many times repressed by the daily plot, which implores rigid and well known levels. The intertwined strokes build deep and complex spaces: weaves, wavy lines, strength cores, links, organic twists and very rational structures, shaken by graphic expressions that evoke personal experiences and textures from nature.

Series: Syllogism of the Universe

In this series, the artist is searching for the argument of creation. The logic of chaos, the sense in coincidences.

On her work, strength cores similar to energetic centers start to appear, going through several levels, in an explosion of senses and shapes that reminds us the the depths of space. Deep structures burst in, looking for a more contemporary abstraction.

In this series, the artist searches for other dimensions of reality where different energetic atmospheres merge, and when they intertwine they become space-time equations.

Series: Existencial Crossroads

In this series, Herz refers to the dilemmas of life. Paths that meet and diverge, making place for the different roads that can be chosen by human beings.

Doubts, certainties, uncertainties, that make him choose one of those roads. An existence that forces him to make choices all the time, even with the no-choice.

In this existential crossroads there are prints, man prints, that fatigue the insomnia of being someone, between the suffering and the pleasure. Just like the strips, resembling Moebius' strip, symbolize the external and the internal part of the road.

Series: Living Water

This series has to do with the water, which poetic sense reminds us of the work of the poet and philosopher Gaston Bachelard. "The imagination is creative freedom. But it's not arbitrariness or nonsense. In the dynamics of the imagination it has an underlying logic". Bachelard, an explorer of that imaginative logic, on his work "The water and the dreams" gives a philosophical dimension to the water's creative imagination coming from the power of symbolization of visceral subconscious layers of groundwater of the person and nature.

From these thoughts arises an iconography related to the depths of the water, living water in continuous motion, full of mystery, feelings, energy, games, enchantment, questions. Signs that are born from the conscious and subconsciousness, from external and internal elements that come together in a spell of webs, similar to the weave of life.

All the series come together into a unique piece of work, where the constant dialogue between the emotional (with the organic shapes) and the rational level (with geometric shapes) can be observed.

Starting from her art, Roxana Herz searches to explore the enigmatic nature of the human existence, in a sense that can be explained neither with words, nor with sounds, and paradoxically, sometimes it can't be explained with images either.
